Rear Suspension
Rear Shock Absorbers- The standard (or OEM) soon tires and can lack sufficient ground clearance. This leads to premature grounding, particularly when loaded. There are a number of aftermarket shocks available. Obviously I haven't tried all, so I'm hoping for some help in filling in the blanks.

Swinging Arms- I can't say there's anything particularly wrong with the OEM swingarm. As you probably know, FJ's sported an alloy arm up to about 1991. The later (rubber mounted engine) models went to steel. Under extreme (race) conditions it may flex and even twist, as Jon Jarosz found on his nitrous 'Black Sunshine' (see gallery). There are several companies making aftermarket swingarms, that if required can be heavily braced.

Comes with either eccentric or pro-street chain adjustment. Can be custom made to your specification

Don't actually list an FJ swingarm, but I believe the FZR1000 Genesis swingarm is compatible with some model FJ's.

Another alternative is a 'beefier' swingarm from a later model. The Thunderace has a rather chunky looking item hanging from it, so I thought I'd have a go. See THUNDERACE REAR END TRANSPLANT
